The Ascot Chang Fleming Overshirt is a direct descendant of our ever popular Safari Jacket, with some small tweaks for a more minimalist design.
For Autumn / Winter 2020, we made our first batch of Fleming Overshirts in a hefty 8-wale corduroy. Incredibly versatile, these jackets can be worn with anything from your favourite button down oxfords, to just a plain white t-shirt for a relaxed weekend look.
Overshirts have been around for a long time. Originally a form of workwear, it was simply a full button-up garment shirt that was cut from a heavier fabric (like canvas or flannel) and made with any number of pockets for functional convenience. As time went on, the overshirt found its use across a myriad of styles, ranging from workwear, campwear, to even military inspired styles.
For our Fleming Overshirt, our 2 pocket design has a swelled seam running across the top of the pockets, a detail taken from casual denim jackets. However, our twin pockets feature a reverse box pleat and covered buttons for a slightly more tailored aesthetic.
We kept the one piece camp collar of our Safaris, but lengthened the collar points a touch for a more pronounced shape, especially when worn flipped up.
In place of the bottom two patch pockets, we opted for “hidden” on seam pockets that give you the same amount of carrying capacity as our Safari Jacket, while reducing the visual clutter of four patch pockets. Shirt-weight corduroy was used for the pocket fabric for an extra touch of warmth in the cooler months.
Finally, we kept the back completely clean of pleats and belts in continuation of our minimalist concept.
Our Fleming Overshirts are now available to purchase RTW online and in stores. MTO orders are also available using our full library of suiting and jacketing fabrics.
The Fleming Overshirt is cut on the same pattern as our Safaris. For those that have bought our Safaris in the past, we recommend to get the same size in our Overshirt.
